Croatia's islands are well served by car ferries — but each island has its own gateway port, and in August the vehicle decks fill up. Here's the map in words.
Which ferry for which island
- Brač — Split → Supetar, about 50 minutes and the busiest island line in the country.
- Hvar — Split → Stari Grad (about 2 hours), or the short Drvenik → Sućuraj hop to the island's eastern tip.
- Korčula — the 15-minute Orebić → Korčula shuttle, or Split → Vela Luka from the west.
- Šolta — Split → Rogač, about an hour.
- Vis — Split → Vis, about 2¼ hours.
- Mljet — Prapratno → Sobra from the Pelješac peninsula, about 45 minutes.
- Lastovo — Split → Ubli car ferry via Vela Luka.
- Ugljan / Pašman / Dugi otok — from Zadar and Biograd: Zadar → Preko, Biograd → Tkon, Zadar → Brbinj.
- Rab — Stinica → Mišnjak (15 minutes) or Valbiska → Lopar from Krk.
- Cres / Lošinj — Brestova → Porozina from Istria or Valbiska → Merag from Krk.
- Pag — Prizna → Žigljen, or drive over the Pag bridge from the south.
Beating the queues
- In July and August, arrive at the port well before departure — vehicle space sells out even when foot passengers still board freely.
- Fares depend on vehicle size and passengers; check the operator's price list when you book.
- The fast catamarans never take cars — if a crossing is listed as foot-passenger only, plan to park on the mainland.
- Mid-week and early-morning sailings are consistently quieter than Saturday changeover days.
